Jolly Harbour Marina and Boatyard, a full-service marina with more than 150 slips, located on the southwest coast of Antigua, is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead operations at one of the island’s premier waterfront communities.
Jolly Harbour Marina Village is a true boater’s paradise, accommodating vessels up to 200 feet and offering a wide range of amenities, including a fuel dock, independent marine trades, laundry facilities, chandlery, a large and well-stocked international grocery store, bars and restaurants, a sports facility, and a golf course.
The boatyard accommodates vessels up to 75 feet LOA and 33 feet beam, with a total yard capacity of up to 240 vessels. Facilities include dual operations with 75 and 85-ton travel lifts, a do-it-yourself boatyard for maintenance, and long-term storage options.
The Role
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations, administration, and development of the Eastern Caribbean Marina and Boatyard. The role ensures strong business performance, exceptional customer service, safety compliance, and staff development while maintaining the highest operational standards.
Financial and Operational Management
Oversee the development of the annual budget proposal, including a prioritized wish list with supporting justifications
Recommend annual rate reviews for upcoming seasons, considering competition and occupancy trends
Review marina and boatyard occupancy reports in relation to revenue performance
Drive revenue growth through strategic advertising and effective operational management
Business Oversight and Engagement
Conduct regular physical site visits to the marina, boatyard, and offices to assess performance, staff morale, maintenance needs, and customer interactions
Oversee and guide all projects from planning through completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met
Review and adjust seasonal staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage
Customer Relations
Address customer concerns promptly, ensuring acknowledgement and coordination for timely resolution
Oversee and support events to ensure successful execution and positive representation of the business
Ensure staff consistently deliver exceptional customer service and exceed guest expectations
Team Leadership and Support
Ensure managers, supervisors, and team members receive appropriate on the job training and ongoing professional development opportunities
Provide mentorship, encouragement, and recognition to promote staff engagement, accountability, and excellence
Lead and motivate the marina team to deliver remarkable experiences across all locations
Marketing, Communications, and Public Engagement
Identify the most effective advertising platforms and marketing strategies for the local and international marketplace
Plan and schedule advertising initiatives to maximise seasonal visibility and return on investment
Oversee the marina website, ensuring content remains current, informative, and engaging
Security Oversight
Liaise regularly with the security supervisor to review performance, address issues, and implement improvements
Ensure all security camera systems, including thermal radar, are fully functional and optimised in collaboration with IT support
Investigate and oversee incidents related to security breaches and ensure appropriate follow up actions
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of 15 years experience in marina and or boatyard operations management, or equivalent hospitality or facility operations with a strong marine component
Familiarity with marina management systems and scheduling software is an asset
Professional certification such as Certified Marina Manager is preferred
Boating or yachting background is an advantage, including knowledge of slip leases, moorings, and fueling operations
Proven record of profit and loss accountability, operational efficiency, budget management, and team leadership within a large marina, yacht club, resort marina, or related facility
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to recruit, motivate, train, and manage seasonal and full time staff while fostering a high service culture
Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to operational challenges
