CLASS 40S ARRIVE IN ANTIGUA! Tuesday 7th December 2010
The Route du Rhum, a single-handed trans-Atlantic race, started in Saint Malo, France in October and finished in Guadeloupe in November. There were 44 Class 40s entered in that event and while some have been shipped directly back to Europe, a number will remain in the Caribbean throughout this season in order to participate in upcoming yachting events.
At least two Class 40s have already arrived in Jolly Harbour where they will be laid up in anticipation of the RORC Caribbean 600. A number of other Class 40s have entered the event and are expected to arrive in Antigua in the near future. Although none of them yet completed an online entry for Antigua Sailing Week, a number have expressed interest and it is expected that some will remain in Antigua following the RORC Caribbean 600 to enable them to participate in Sailing Week.
Also expressing an interest in Antigua Sailing Week are a number of Open 60s that also participated in the Route du Rhum and we expect to see some of them arriving in Antigua as well in the coming weeks!
So it looks like the upcoming racing season is shaping up nicely with a great variety of participants expected.
