TEAM ANTIGUA & BARBUDA PREPS FOR HAITIAN ENCOUNTER Friday 4th November 2011
Team Antigua & Barbuda will take on Guadeloupe tomorrow night, in their final warm-up match ahead of their November 11 World Cup Qualifier against Haiti.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7 pm, at Sticky Wicket Stadium. Admission is $10.
The mood in the camp ahead of the friendly and the WCQ is positive, Team Manager Fernando Abraham said.
“Everybody is excited about the whole thing – the big game against Haiti, of course, and the practice game, so that they can get themselves prepared for the encounter next Friday,” Abraham said.
“A win Saturday night would keep the guys in good spirits, in a good frame of mind, to know that they are still on a winning streak going into the game with the Haitians. But, most of all, this match against Guadeloupe is part of the preparation. We want to see the guys in different positions, to get ready for the big one,” Abraham added.
Head Coach Tom Curtis has said that the Guadeloupians will present the style off play similar to the Haitians, making them a good choice for the final friendly match.
The country is urged to support the team this weekend as well as next week, with Antigua & Barbuda Football Association General Secretary Gordon “Banks” Derrick saying the occasion transcends the football fraternity.
“People need to come Saturday to see the game because it’s important to really get the guys riled up for next week’s game. It’s the final warm-up and we are going to tweak everything for the big game next Friday. And people need to come because it’s a national event. We’re going into battle on the football field, not just the team, but the nation of Antigua & Barbuda,” Derrick said.
Meanwhile, tickets for the Haiti encounter go on sale from Friday, November 3, with a $20 early bird special on Monday and Tuesday (November 7 and 8). Regular price for adults is $30; children under 12 pay $10.
Ticket outlets are all iMobile outlets; APUA Head Office; Kennedy’s Liquor World; Super Power Electronics; Island Original; and Cool and Smooth.
