SOLEYN BLISTERS TRACK AS CKHS REGAINS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
Monday 14th March 2011
Christ the King High School recaptured the 2011 Coca Cola sponsored Inter-schools’ Track & Field Championship (Female category) on Sunday night, March 13, at the YASCO grounds.
Although CKHS was spearheaded by sprinter Alisha Thomas and distance runner, Cassie Vitalis, in the Under 20 Girls, it was the tenacity and grit of Bliss Soleyn and Meuset Jeffers in the U-15 that made the difference in the crowning of Christ the King.
Coming out of a 100M heat of 12.60 earlier in the week, Bliss blistered her opponents in the Finals in an improved time of 12.36.
Meuset Jeffers took the silver in 12.72 sec.
In the 200m, Soleyn and Jeffers again consumed the U-15 pack in times of 25.00 and 26.16 respectively.
In the field, Tyea Ladoo and Keishora Armstrong made their mark for CKHS in the High Jump, both placing 1st in the U-20 and U-17, respectively.
All CKHS athletes performed to the best of their abilities and showed a lot of potential
for the future.
Defending Champions, Princess Margaret Secondary (girls’ category) was beaten into second place, while the Antigua Girls High School finished in third place.
Despite the effort of Carifta bronze medalist, Tahir Walsh of St. Joseph’s Academy, Princess Margaret took the 4 X 400m Relay (Boys) to give them the edge to retain the Championship title in the Boys’ Division. SJA had to settle for second place with Barbuda placing third in the points standings.
Sapphire Davis and Viani Joseph received the Most Outstanding Athlete Awards in the U-15 and U-17 girls, respectively, and Cassie Vitalis of CKHS won the award in the Girls’ U-20.
In the Boys’ U-15, the Most Oustanding Athlete was Machia Washington of the Ot-tos Comprehensive and in the U-17, it was Seiko Murray of Barbuda. Javvae Hippolite
