$77 MILLION ALLOCATED TO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION , SPORTS, YOUTH & GENDER AFFAIRS IN 2011 BUDGET

YASCO has been handed over to the Athletic Association for its operation
The Antigua Government in its 2011 Budget has allocated just about $77 Million to the Ministry of Education , Sports, Youth & Gender Affairs. This is a shortfall of approximately $13 Million from the 2010 allocation and of which more than 40 percent will go toward paying salaries and wages.
Although, Minister of Education, Sports, Youth & Gender Af-fairs, Dr. Hon. Jacqui Quin-Leandro hinted briefly, in her debate in the House of Representatives, on the Government’s initiative to outsource the operations of the various sports complexes and facilities to Associations and Community groups, Sports stakeholders are looking forward to the actual Minister with the responsibility for Sports, Senator Winston Williams to give a more comprehensive outlook for the administration of sports and its financing when the debate begins in the Senate.
However, there is no secret, Government and Sports Stakeholders need to come up with the right approach to financing sports in Antigua/Barbuda.
