NATIONAL CONSULTATION ON DRAFT ENERGY POLICY SET FOR MARCH 28TH, 2011 Wednesday 23rd March 2011
(St. John’s, Antigua; March 23, 2011) Members of the public and all stakeholders within the Energy Sector will be given an opportunity to debate and contribute feedback on the Draft National Energy Policy this coming Monday March 28th 2011, when the Energy Desk within the Office of the Prime Minister hosts the National Energy Consultation.
The National Energy Policy highlights the major initiatives to be implemented by the government with regards to energy efficiency measures, renewable energy solutions and sustainability.
The Consultation to be held at the Multi-Purpose Center will commence at 6 p.m. While the draft National Energy Policy which was issued for stakeholder feedback in January is quite far reaching, persons attending the consultation will be invited to comment on the policy’s treatment of the critical sectors of electricity and water, the environment, transportation, and agriculture.
The highly interactive session will feature an overview of the National Energy Policy by Ambassador Joan Underwood; a discussion of practical considerations for the implementation of renewable energy technology by Electrical Engineer Mr. Girvan Piggott; and an examination of challenges confronting the transportation sector.
In view of the recent unrest in the Middle East and the attendant increase in the price of fossil fuels, also taking into account the grave concerns associated with the impacts of climate change, all citizens and residents are encouraged to participate in this important consultation and to weigh in on the National Energy Policy which will determine how Antigua and Barbuda addresses these challenges in the medium to long term.
