FREE WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN Friday 2nd November 2018
Teachers and kids’ club leaders are invited to sign up for the free activity sessions (November 5th to 9th) which aim to take youngsters on a fun-packed, virtual journey through Antigua & Barbuda.
From crosswords to colouring, comprehension to anagrams, children will have the chance to learn more about the twin islands’ history and culture through a set of engaging activities.
The sessions are suitable for grades two to six and are being conducted by primary school teacher Irene Danics, co-author of children’s guidebook ‘Explore Antigua & Barbuda’. The fully-illustrated 80-page book was published last year and offers youngsters and visitors a snapshot of life here through the ages.
Danics has now created a supplement activity booklet bursting with captivating exercises on a variety of topics including geography, history through the centuries, national heroes, wildlife, indigenous music, culture and food.
“The sessions will complement work being done in local classrooms and show how our books can be used as an additional resource for educators and provide them with extra tools to teach local material,” Danics explained. “And what better time to commemorate everything that makes Antigua & Barbuda unique than just after independence celebrations?”
Co-author and Antigua-based journalist Gemma Handy will also be present to give a brief segment on writing articles for media.
