ANTIGUA’S GOT RHYTHM ENTRY DEADLINE TO BE EXTENDED Wednesday 3rd March 2010
The International Women’s Club of Antigua & Barbuda today announced that the entry deadline for the “Antigua’s Got Rhythm” children’s talent show has been extended from Friday, 5 March, to Wednesday, 10 March. IWC members will be at the LIME office in Woods Centre from 1-5 p.m. each day to collect the forms and entry fees.
The show, to be structured like the popular televised talent shows in the U.S. and the U.K., will feature performers in three age categories: Wee Ones (4-7 years old); Middlings (8-11 years); Tweens (12-15). Performances will be limited to eight minutes in length, and children can enter as a solo act or a group of up to six members. Entry fees are EC$ 40 per solo performer, and EC$ 30 per participant for pairs or groups.
After the entries are turned in, each act will be notified of their time to appear at the auditions to be held on 20, 21, 27 and 28 March. Judges with backgrounds in arts education will select the final five acts from each age category that will then perform on 17 April.
The final show on 17 April will be at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre and televised live on ABS-TV. Celebrity judges, the audience, and LIME cellular service users through Text to Win will determine the winning act in each age category, and then the judges will select an overall grand prize winner. Prizes will include cash awards and performance opportunities.
Entry forms can still be obtained at the LIME office in Woods Centre, Best of Books on St. Mary’s Street and in the Royal Palm Centre, Java Jojo in Jolly Harbour, and Auntie May’s Garden Shop in Falmouth. They can also be downloaded from the event website at www.antiguasgotrhythm.com.
The event is a fundraiser for the club’s Scholarship Program, where each year they award $40,000 to Antiguan women to pursue tertiary education goals. Sponsors already signed up for the event include LIME and ABI Financial Group.
