WARRIORS CUP FOOTBALL CHAMPS DECLARED Monday 10th September 2012
In a very competitive Final, for a reasonably good crowd, on Sunday evening, September 9th, at John Hughes, Old Road defeated Bullets of Pigotts 1—Nil to emerge as the Champions of the Senior Division in the Warriors Cup Football Tournament.
Both teams defended well and with excellent goalkeeping at either end, it was going to be some simple mistake that was going to make a difference.
It was Old Road who gained the edge in the 71st minute from a shot by Micah Chattum to break the stalemate. Both Old Road and Bullets found their way to the Finals when Old Road defeated Swetes 2—1, and Bullets defeated Celtics 2—1, in the semifinals on Saturday, September 8th at John Hughes.
Celtics placed 3rd in the overall standings. Meanwhile, All Saints Attackers defeated Young Warriors 3—1 to take the Female title. Attackers won all three games in the two teams female competition.
According to organizer of the Warriors Cup, Collin James, “the tournament was a successful one, although hampered a bit by the unavailability of referees at the start, but that was later taken under control.” The Warriors Cup was sponsored mainly by Cool & Smooth, and Sparkling Detergents.
