WINGS TO PARTICIPATE IN OHIO TRACK & FIELD MEETS & MORE Monday 16th January 2012
A Wings Youth Track & Field team will be selected to participate in at least, three (3) Track & Field Meets in Cleveland, Ohio in April 2012.
The first of the Ohio tour will be the Willoughby South High School Relays on April 13 and the second will be at Eastlake North. The third engagement has not yet been confirmed. But according to host of the Wings visit to Ohio, Joe Topoly, “all the meets will be great competition for the athletes.”
Joe Topoly, a former Peace Corps Physical Education & Sports Instructor in Antigua, is also a long time friend of the CPTSA Wings Sports Club. Topoly was host of the Wings Youth Track & Field team in 1996, for the 21st Ranger Relays in Cleveland.
According to Topoly, besides Field Events and a number of Hurdle Events, the Meets will include, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, 3200M. The Wings athletes are expected to compete in just the straight track events.
The age range for the Meets is 12 years to 19 years, boys and girls. Topoly said the Athletic Meets are great events for US college track & field coaches looking to recruit talent. Already, Wings Youth Track & Field Head Coach, Everton Cornelius is excited about. the competitions and says he has the athletes to make a good impression, including Tahir Walsh, Jalil Salmon and Alisha Thomas.
The Wings Youth Track & Field will be faced with the task of raising the necessary funds to travel to Cleveland. Accommodation will be taken care of by the host. The Cleveland Track & Field Events is ahead of the 4th Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic which is slated for the YASCO grounds, May 5 & 6, 2012.
