SUMMER'S HEATING UP FOR JUNIORS Thursday 26th July 2012
The summer is heating up for our tennis juniors. Some have just returned others are getting ready to leave. In the past 3 weeks our juniors have been actively competing in tournaments across our region.
Our (Caribbean Union Bank sponsored) 12 & under team returned from the second annual COTECC Wilson Cup 12 & under championships; placing 9th out of a field of ten countries. This is Antigua & Barbuda’s first time entering this competition, but with the promised support of Caribbean Union Bank we will continue to develop our juniorsto be a part of this prestigious tournament; maybe next year we will have both aboys and girls team.
This week end our Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 18 players are off to compete in various tournaments. This is the second year that our U12 juniors will be competing in the Coco Cola junior tournament, flying Antigua’s flag will be Ashley Bersma and Nicholas Fuller, while the youngest player of the lot Aiden Fuller will be competing in the U10 category.
This is the first time these junior athletes will be competing outside of Antigua & Barbuda. The (National Olympic Committee sponsored) JITIC (Jr. International Tennis Championship) Team also leaves for El Salvador where they will meet 150 of their piers from both Central America and the Caribbean. The team consists of U16 player Shakir Elvin, U14 players Cordell Williams jr, Justice Christopher, D’jeri Raymond and Jessica Isaac.
This team with the addition of Jody Maginley will then move on to The Coco Cola ITF jr tournament, SVG ITF junior tournament and ITF Tobago which will complete what has been dubbed as the summer tour. Click here for all News and Specials for Antigua & Barbuda Tennis Association
