RS ELITE REGATTA AT NONSUCH BAY RESORT
Sunday 15th February 2015

Seven couples from Salcombe Yacht Club competed in RS Elites at Nonsuch Bay last week for the second time.

The format is fun based with partners crewing without spinnakers, producing very close racing. On more than one occasion five boats were crossing the finish line within a five second gap.

The event was first run when Nonsuch had four Elites in 2013 and eight couples flew out from the UK to sail a series of races culminating in a final series. The same format was sailed last week, but using the increased number of six RS Elites now available.

The event saw a 14 race qualifying series competing for a five way sail off on Sunday. The overall Winners were Tim and Bernadette Law.  Tim is one of the UK's outstanding Laser sailors with a long history of regatta success.

In second place were Mark and Sarah Jephcott. Mark is a former winner of the Swan Worlds and he was one point clear of Martin and Cheryll Beck who finished in third place.  Martin who qualified for the RS Elite Challenge to be held on Antigua Sailing Week's Lay Day, now owns one and a half of the growing Nonsuch fleet of RS Elites.

All the competitors are Members of the Salcombe Yacht Club which is situated on the beautiful south Coast of England.

Martin Beck played host, ably supported by the Nonsuch Bay water sports staff headed by Lesley and his local team.

Everyone will be invited to return in February 2017.

Finally, Martin has announced that he plans to host a 'Team' event next year around the same time and asks that if anyone is interested in entering to contact him for details. He can be contacted at beck181@hotmail.co.uk.
