BEYOND THE SCREEN - ANTIGUA FILM WEEKEND
Wednesday 7th August 2013

The Antigua & Barbuda International Literary Festival has teamed up with HAMAFilms Antigua and Goldenmedia to present the upcoming ‘Beyond the Screen’ event, the Antigua Film Weekend. The Antigua Film Weekend runs from Wednesday 14th August through to Saturday 17th and features workshops, a gala screening, a chance to meet the story tellers and an evening with Neema Barnette, the director who will be heavily involved in the Film Weekend. Check out the bio on Neema Barnette here.

The schedule of activities starts on Wednesday 14th with the Script to Screen Workshop with Neema Barnette, where you will pick up tips on getting your idea on screen, refining your skills as a writer, developing your story, characters, visual thinking and more, as well as post production tips like sound, graphics, music, mixing and more. This follows in the evening with a Meet the Story Tellers session, where Caribbean authors and screenwriters will be on site.

Thursdays Workshop is Acting for Film with Neema’s husband Actor Reed McCants, providing techniques for on-camera acting and training rooted in time-honored theatrical traditions. Later in the evening, Deluxe Cinema will host their Opening Night Gala with the featured movie ‘Woman Thou Art Loosed – On the 7th Day’ with talkback with Neema and Reed immediately after.

Friday features the Digital Filmmaking Workshop with Reed McCants and filmmaker Howard Allen, covering the basics of the art along with digital workstations, data transfer and more, allowing for equipment understanding and a little bit on internet marketing. At 8:00 pm, an evening with Neema Barnette begins with dinner and discussion, which will be open to guests that reserve seating.

The final day of the Film Weekend is Saturday 17th, and is reserved for the Reading Room at the Best of Books, featuring authors Carol Mitchell and Nerissa Golden, where they will be doing book signings and readings.
