SHEMAINE CAMPBELLE BRIMMING WITH CONFIDENCE
Thursday 10th November 2011

Bridgetown, Barbados – West Indies Women’s utility player Shemaine Campbelle is brimming with confidence as she departs the Caribbean today for Bangladesh for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

“We will do well, I’m confident about it because we have been showing good improvement in the past 2 to 3 years and we want to build on that,” the petite 19 year old Guyanese said.

“We put in the hard work here at the training camp and even before when we were home to make sure our fitness and preparation is up to standard so now it is just to go to Bangladesh and execute our plans,” said the medium pace all rounder who also keeps wicket.

The West Indies Women’s squad completed a two week preparatory camp today at the Sagicor High Performance Centre at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies.

“We don’t have to do anything fancy, we just have to bowl a tight line and length, play every ball on its merit and keep our head in the game, once we do those things we will come out on top,” Campbelle told WindiesCricket.com.

The 19 year old who celebrated her birthday last month has 19 One Day Internationals under her belt along with 22 Twenty20 Internationals.

She debuted for the West Indies in 2009 and has been a steady member of the squad since.

While she believes that she is bowling well at the moment, Campbelle said that on a personal level she needs to improve her batting returns and to do so she has to be more patient at the crease as she has played impetuously at times and has lost her wicket as a result.

Ten teams will participate in the qualifiers and the top four teams will join top ranked sides, England, Australia, India and New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup 2013 in India.

The teams have been drawn in two groups for the qualifiers with West Indies in Group B along with Pakistan, Ireland, Japan and hosts Bangladesh. The qualifiers begin on November 14 and run through to November 25.

West Indies squad: Merissa Aguilleira (Captain), Shermaine Campbelle, Britney Cooper, Shanel Daley, Deandra Dottin, Pearl Etienne, Stacy-Ann King, Kycia Knight, Anisa Mohammed, Subrina Munroe, Juliana Nero, Shaquana Quintyne, Shakera Selman, Stafanie Taylor.
