WICB PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES SAGICOR HPC ON OUTSTANDING TOUR
Tuesday 4th October 2011

The West Indies Cricket Board has congratulated the members of the Sagicor High Performance Centre for their outstanding performances on the triumphant six-match tour of Dubai which ended on Sunday.

The West Indies development team played unbeaten on their two-week trip winning all six matches in the Carib-Asian Series. They beat United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and West Indies in the 50 Over matches and also had wins over United Arab Emirates Blues, United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan in the Twenty20 matches.

Speaking on behalf of the WICB, President Dr Julian Hunte applauded the players for their excellent results on foreign soil in demanding conditions.

“I want to congratulate the members of the Sagicor High Performance Centre Team following their overwhelming success in Dubai. The results speak for themselves. Six wins out of six matches demonstrate how dominant the team was, the confidence with which they played and how focussed they were during this trip,” Dr Hunte said.

“Playing away from home is never easy and can be twice as hard when temperature reaches over 40 Degrees Celsius. The Sagicor HPC team was able to overcome these challenges and never once did they wilt in the heat. The fact that the team was able to play injury-free and dominate away from home speaks to the level of conditioning and preparation, both mentally and physically.

“This is an exciting group of young cricketers, who we believe have the ability to contribute significantly to West Indies cricket in the future. At the WICB we recognise the need to develop a crop of well-rounded cricketers capable of becoming world-class performers on the field and respected ambassadors off the field.”

Dr Hunte added: “The WICB, in its efforts to develop the game in the region, will continue to provide the resources and look at all avenues to ensure that the emerging players are provided with the support to reach the pinnacle of world cricket.

“The WICB also wants to thank Sagicor, the HPC sponsor, for their continued support of the programme and the players. They continue to work closely with the team and are a key partner in West Indies cricket.”

The Sagicor High Performance Centre started in April 2010 with the first 15 players enrolled in a two-year programme. The group is based at 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados. The Sagicor HPC’s next assignment is the Regional Super50 Tournament in Guyana from October 19 to 29.

“We look forward to continued improvement in the Regional Super50,” President Hunte signed off.
