Wednesday 7th September 2011

St John’s, Antigua – President of the West Indies Cricket Board Dr. Julian Hunte congratulated the West Indies Women’s Team for their series triumph over Pakistan.

Windies won the four match series 3-1 with Anisa Mohammed being named Player of the Series after picking up 14 wickets, inclusive of two five wicket hauls.

“This impressive victory signals to all that you continue on your path towards the very pinnacle of world cricket,” Dr. Hunte remarked in a message to Captain Merissa Aguilleira.

“We continue to be proud of your notable achievements and re-affirm the Board’s commitment to ensuring that you are equipped to move upward and it is because of this commitment that we instituted retainer contracts for women,” Dr. Hunte said.

“I must highlight to outstanding performance of our champion spinner Anisa and specifically congratulate her on the historic feat of becoming the first female West Indian to achieve 50 wickets in ODIs,” Dr Hunte pointed out.

“I note that she is even making strides forward with the bat and look forward to her establishing herself as a genuine all rounder in the future,” Dr. Hunte encouraged.

“Best wishes for continued success in the Twenty20s as we look forward to more victories and improvement in every facet of the game,” Dr Hunte urged.
