HIGH COMMISSION OFFICE IN LONDON HAND OVER CONTAINERS Thursday 18th January 2018
17th January 2018 - The High Commission Office in London, through High Commissioner Karen Mae-Hill, has facilitated the donation of two containers of supplies to the recovery process in Antigua and Barbuda.
The containers of household items, to include mattresses and bedding, table ware, kitchen and bathroom accessories among others, were handed over on Tuesday to the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS).
The items were sourced from Shop Direct in London, who was among the first to respond to a letter of appeal sent by High Commissioner Hill.
According to the High Commissioner’s Liaison Officer Violet Lake, who handed over the containers, the High Commission Office expects that the donations will assist the people of Antigua and Barbuda with the continuing re-building work and take persons one step closer to returning to the sister-isle.
Director of NODS, Philmore Mullin says one of the challenges has been to assist Barbudans with getting back over to the sister-isle to re-settle and Tuesday’s donation will help in a meaningful way. He is grateful to the various support partners and individuals who continue to offer assistance so that Barbudans can function in a relatively comfortable environment.
Also present were Member of Parliament for Barbuda the Hon Arthur Nibbs, Chairperson of the Barbuda Council Knacyntar Nedd and Barbuda Council member Nadia John George.
The High Commission Office in London notes that it remains committed to supporting the efforts of the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda in the re-building process.
