2011 NATIONAL TIME TRAIL CHAMPIONSHIPS Tuesday 29th March 2011
The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will be hosting 2011 National Time Trail Championships sponsored by INET, on Sunday 3rd April. The event will at 2:30pm in front the Police Recreation Grounds and proceed up Factory road, pass Mount Joy round a-bout across to Freemans Village Play field for 2 laps finishing back at PRG.
Sunday’s event will be based over a 19 mile distance. The individual time trial event is a race against the clock, it is design to record the speed of a person’s individual effort over certain distance and the person who can complete the 19 mile in the fastest/shortest time will emerge as the winner.
Reigning National TT Champion and course record holder, Robert Marsh will be defending his title and is expecting to better his course record time that is set at 44:57.58. Marsh’s best competition in last year’s event came from Jyme Bridges who was only 55 seconds off the winning time.
Unfortunately, Bridges will not be contesting in Sunday’s event as he is training in Cuba. But strong competition will still come from most island elite riders, which include Marvin Spencer, Dale Richardson, Ken Jackson, Neil Lloyd and Timothy Thomas.
The 2011 National Championships will feature 3 categories; Men’s open class, Females and juniors. Recognition will be given to B-Class although it is not a recognize class for the championships. Other notable riders of the categories are Alvin Merrick, Devon Norris, Tamiko Butler, Tesheed Gordon, Joel Phillip and Nigel Fabian to name a few.
