ANTIGUA NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES THE 2010 COMMONWEALTH GAMES TEAM

The Antigua and Barbuda will be represented in 5 sporting disciplines which includes; Athletics, Cycling, Swimming, Shooting and Boxing. National Record holder High Jumper and Pan American Games Bronze medalist, James Grayman confirmed Participation at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, New Delhi, India. The 24 old professional athletes also selected to carry the flag of the Antigua and Barbuda’s delegation. The other members that compose the Athletics team are National Record holder Triple Jumper, Ayata Joseph. 100 and 200m specialists, Richard Richardson and Chavaughn Walsh will also fly the nation’s flag on the track. Oraine Browne will contest the Javelin event along with USA based Althea Charles in Hammer Throw with her season best of 54.73 Meters. The Athletics Team Managers will be Calvin Greenaway and Marlon Mack to handle the track and field athletes and events.

Cycling will feature OECS Champion Jyme Bridges and Marvin Spencer will contest both the mass start Road Race and the Individual Time Trial which will take place on the 10 and 13 October respectively. Other riders of the National Cycling Association that will attend the games are 3rd Ranked, Omari King and Ken Jackson. The Team Manager will be ABACA’s Technical Director, Stenlie Matthew.

Swimming – Karin Clashing will compete in 4 events at 2010 Commonwealth Games. The 18 year old will contest the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 50 Butterfly. Karin Clashing will be managed by Ms. Elizabeth Watkins.
Boxing will feature Akita Aska. Akita competed at the 2010 CAC Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and now selected to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the Commonwealth Games. The Boxing Association selected the legendary, Maurice Hope at Team Manager.

Shooting – The Riffle Association will be competing at their 2nd consecutive Commonwealth Games. The Nation’s number one ranked, Christopher Joseph and Barry Baltimore will compete in the Small Bore Competition whilst West Indies Full Bore Division Champion, Desroy Maile and Thomas Greenaway will compete in Full Bore competition, known at this games as the Queen’s Prize. The Riffle team will be managed by Stephan Winter.

President of the Rifle Association, Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee, Neville Fenton will lead the charge of the Antigua and Barbuda delegation. Mr. Fenton is appointed at Chef de Mission of the Antigua and Barbuda Commonwealth Games team. Mr. Fenton will leave the island for Delhi on the weekend ahead of the team to prepare for the team’s arrival in Delhi and complete the Delegation Registration Meeting. The entire delegation will leave Antigua on British Airways on 28th September headed by the General Team Manager, Daryll Matthew. The team is expected to be in Delhi for the Team Welcoming Ceremony on October 1st.

The President, 1st Vice President and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Senator E. P. Chet Greene, Wilbur Harigan and Cliff Williams will also be in attendance at the Games whilst Games Ambassador, Sir Vivan Richards and Hon. Winston Williams will also be in attendance.

Contribution came from LIME to the Antigua and Barbuda Commonwealth Games team. Lime will be providing gift bags to each members of team. The 2010 Commonwealth Games will run from 3 – 14th October in New Delhi India.
