2ND JURIED ART COMPETITION WINNING PIECE TO SHOWCASED Thursday 10th January 2013
Art At The Ridge’s 2nd Juried Art Competition was open to artists between the ages of 19 to 39 years old. The competition was looking for young talented artists who may or may not have already made a name for themselves in the art community on island. Art At The Ridge is keen to support and promote our younger artists, to help them realise their creative ambitions and to bring a new a fresh outlook to our island’s art scene.
Art At The Ridge was delighted with the response to the competition. Entrants included known artists, up and coming artists as well as new artists. This has further highlighted the range of creative talent on island and continues to highlight Antigua & Barbuda as a visual arts hot spot in the Caribbean.
The winning piece was submitted by X-Saphair King and is called ‘Strength Through Pain’. It is a powerful image in acrylic on canvas. X-Saphair is only 19-years old and is a recent graduate of Antigua State College where he studied art under the tutelage of well-known Antiguan artist Mark Brown. X-Saphair is thrilled to have won this competition and he is already working towards a solo exhibition with Art At The Ridge early in 2014.
X-Saphair’s winning piece can be viewed at our next art exhibition, on Friday 25 January 2013, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, at Sugar Club (Sugar Ridge Village). We will also be exhibiting selected best pieces from the competition by Glenroy Aaron, Dunelyn Parker, Zavian Archibald, Shem Alexander and Aixa Bevilacqua Warner.
Our January art exhibition will feature paintings by up and coming young Antiguan artist Glenroy Aaron, who also entered our 1st Juried Art Competition in 2011. Since then, Glenroy has exhibited his artwork at various venues on island, including the Jumby Bay Art Show, and has successfully sold a few of his pieces. Click here for all News and Specials for
