NATIONAL ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012 A SUCCESS Wednesday 6th June 2012
The Antigua and Barbuda National Athletics Championships came off with a bang at the YASCO Sports Complex on Sunday June 3, 2012.
Winning the 100 metre race was the highlight of the meet, with the gold medal for that event being earned by National Sprint Champion, Ambassador Daniel 'Bakka' Bailey.
Association President, Dr. Rodney Williams stated that he was impressed with the smooth flow of the events at the meet and congratulated all the winners from the Under 11 to the Senior Levels. However, the Association's leader expressed disappointment with the number of females participating in events . Dr. Williams however gave assurances that the Association has been working on developing a strategy to achieve the objective of increasing the number of females involved in track and field. He also pointed out that the Association will be seeking to increase the number of field events in next year's Championships which is expected to be extended to a two day event.
President Williams commended the Event's Organizing Committee, Sponsors, Officials and Athletes for playing their part in making the 2012 Championships a success and stated that he was looking forward to a bigger and better Meet in 2013.
