HADEED GROUP OF COMPANIES SPONSORS TEAM ANTIGUA ISLAND GIRLS
Monday 2nd July 2018

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (June 29, 2018) – Team Antigua Island Girls is pleased to announce the Hadeed Group of Companies as the major sponsor of their 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge quest.

The Gold Plus level support, amounting to USD $75,000.00, represents half of the amount the team must raise to enter the race. It is also the first substantial donation received.

“We would like to thank the Hadeed Group of Companies for, not just the generous donation to our team, but also for the vote of confidence in our quest for an historic Atlantic row. This tangible show of support takes us to the halfway mark of our target, and we are hoping it will cause other companies to follow this lead,” said crewmember Samara Emmanuel.

Calid Hassad, general manager of Antigua Power Company, one of the subsidiaries of the Hadeed Group of Companies and the appointed spokesperson, noted the company’s rich legacy of good corporate citizenship.

“The Hadeed Group of Companies is committed to our community and we have demonstrated this over the years with innumerable sponsorships and support. We are pleased to collaborate with Team Antigua Island Girls as they embark on this challenge that will bring immeasurable benefit to Antigua and Barbuda. As business trailblazers, it is natural fit that we would support pioneers,” Hassad said.
Team Antigua Island Girls will be the third team to represent Antigua and Barbuda in The World's Toughest Row. They will make waves as the first female team from the Caribbean and the first all-Black team to row across the Atlantic.

The race begins in La Gomera, Canary Islands on December 12 and will end in Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua.
The team of Elvira Bell, Christal Clashing, Samara Emmanuel, Kevinia Francis and Junella King (four will be selected, with one alternate) are aiming to break the women's record of a 34-day crossing. They must raise USD $150,000.00 in operational costs. All teams entering the event support a cause and Team Antigua Island Girls have selected Cottage of Hope, a group home for orphaned and abused girls. Teams therefore must raise beyond the fees associated with the race.
