COUNTDOWN TO THE LAUNCH OF CARIBBEAN AIRLINES NONSTOP FROM JFK
Friday 10th December 2010

Final preparations for the launch of the new Caribbean Airlines from JFK to Antigua and Barbuda on December 14 are in full gear.  The non-stop service which will run on Tuesdays and Fridays, will originate from Port of Spain to V.C. Bird International Airport with return service from New York’s JFK.

Leading up to the launch, several events will be hosted to increase awareness about this new service, which will add additional seats and increase access from the United States and Port of Spain.  On the eve of the inaugural flight, a reception for travel and media professionals will highlight some of the unique selling points of the destination in a showcase of the music, cuisine and culture of Antigua and Barbuda.  Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. John Maginley, will deliver a keynote address and provide updates on the state of the tourism industry as well as forecasts for the winter season.

Prior to boarding, an official ribbon cutting ceremony will unveil the inaugural service which is booked to capacity. A fare sale launched by Caribbean Airlines offering competitive introductory fares is being credited for the steady flow in winter bookings. Caribbean Airlines officials indicate that the new service is being positioned as “offering better value and a better experience relative to the legacy carriers that already serve the destination from the United States”. In addition to competitive fares, Caribbean Airlines offers a 10% discount for seniors and children, two free bags not exceeding 50 pounds each and creative pricing options on return one- way fares.
Head of Corporate Communications at Caribbean Airlines Laura Asbjornsen remarked that the US market continues to be a vital market for the Caribbean region. “Expanding our North American operations to Antigua is in keeping with our drive to develop our hub operations here within the Caribbean. We will continue to liaise with key stakeholders in the industry to ensure that customers know the Caribbean is open of business.”

Tourism Minister, John Maginley views the additional air service to Antigua and Barbuda on Caribbean Airlines as an asset and he believes that it will help to facilitate the additional demand for travel from the United States that is anticipated this winter. “The launch of the Caribbean Airlines service helps to increase our seat capacity and provides greater access from some of our major gateways. As the US economy continues to improve, we have seen a steady increase in bookings and as a result we will be better prepared to tap into this market potential.”

Caribbean Airlines Flight 428 will depart Antigua at 8:45 a.m. and arrive at JFK at 11:50 a.m. The return Flight 429 will leave JFK at 1:55p.m. and arrive at V.C. Bird International at 6:55pm.  Customers can book online at www.caribbean-airlines.com, call the airline toll free at 800.744.2225 or contact their travel agent to make their bookings.
