CAMBUSA SPONSORS ROUND THE WORLD TOUR
Wednesday 7th January 2015

On October 19, 2014, Italian yachtsman Matteo Miceli set sail from Rome on a solo round-the-world sailing tour in a 6-meter ECO40 prototype yacht. His goal is to prove that the voyage could be done in a craft that was completely self-sufficient in energy and food, without a single drop of fossil fuel.

The craft, designed my Miceli himself specifically for this voyage, is equipped with solar panels, idroturbine and wind generators for the production of energy. On board there are two hens for the production of eggs and a hydroponic garden, which together with the fishing will serve for the food supply. Cambusa Italian Restaurant in Antigua supported Miceli’s effort by training him last summer for provisioning and how to sustain himself with the limited supplies at hand.

His voyage is taking a southern route around Africa and into the seas north of Anarctica. As of January 8, 2015, Miceli is off the coast of Australia, and can be tracked online through his website at http://www.matteomiceli.com/
