ROTARACT RAISES ALMOST $1,400 IN CHARITY DOMINO COMPETITION
Friday 28th September 2012

Nine domino teams made their way to national Domino Association building on Friday September 21 for the first ever Rotaract Domino Tournament dubbed “Me nuh min no dat playing Do-mi-no could min so sweet”.

And the group of more than two scores graciously helped the Rotaract Club raise EC$1,398.88 in funds for upcoming charitable projects.

President of the Club Daydre Daley said, “After five hours of rigorous three-hand competitions, we had three top six-team advancing as winners to night two of the tournament.”

Night two, which started a bit later than scheduled, turned out to be the most patient and intense, with teams battling in two sets of head-on clashes.

“Though it was a friendly event, everyone still wanted to win. Everyone took it very seriously and it was very competitive throughout the two nights indeed,” said Daley.

The Rotaract Club extends congratulations to team Parham Strikers who took home first place honors with matching trophy and complementary zip-line tickets from Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour.

Team Super Mix came in second and copped six buckets of beer from Island B-Hive with matching trophy whilst team Double Six came in third place and took home six movie tickets from complements of Deluxe Cinema with matching trophy.
Cool & Smooth sponsored all trophies.

Duo prizes also went to first place team members from Mahogany, Terry Browne and Adella John, who won Clay Pigeon Shooting Vouchers from Antigua Clays. In second place for the duo prize were team Parham Strikers’ Duranie Grant and Parks who won FIFA Qualifier Match tickets for the upcoming and highly anticipated USA – ANU match set to kickoff at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium here in Antigua. The third place prize of membership passes for Kennedy’s Enterprises Ltd. went to team Mahogany’s Clayton Thompson and Peter Camille.

In the meantime, committee director for this project … has assured that monies raised at this year’s tournament will be used to help fund and support local service projects.

The club dubs the overall tournament as a success within itself as the patrons were competing for the prizes at their best. And based on the demands of the participants the Rotaract Club of Antigua is poised to host a second tournament in its upcoming fiscal year.

“Wow, I’m glad were able to execute such a great tournament. I am happy to say that despite the hiccups, the end result was indeed great. I extend a hearty and grateful thank you to all the participants of this event, and to all Rotaractors, Prospective Members, Guests, Past Members, Rotarians and individuals of the National Domino Association for their assistance in making our very first Domino Tournament project of the Rotaract Club a successful one,” expressed Chairperson for the event and Rotaractor Dave Josiah.

The Rotaract Club meets every first three Wednesdays of the month at 7:30pm at the Rotary House. For more information on the activities of the Rotaract Club, or to become a member, contact a member of the club.
