IWC ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT Wednesday 5th November 2014
St. John’s, Antigua (4 November 2014) The International Women’s Club of Antigua and Barbuda is pleased to announce that their Annual Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, November 15 at the Cedar Valley Golf Club.
The women of the Club have been busy, following their Scholarship Awards, which was held at Scotiabank Headquarters on High Street in early July. The upcoming Golf Tournament is the major fundraiser for the Scholarship Awards which this year handed out funds in excess of $40,000 to nine Antiguan women to facilitate their tertiary education.
Scotiabank has confirmed their sponsorship again this year, as well as Virgin Atlantic Airways, A.S. Bryden and Sons Ltd., and Eye Mobile Caribbean. New to the event as a major sponsor this year are Abbott’s, the Jewellery and Perfumery company in Heritage Quay, and LIME who has donated tents to host the event.

At 8:00am in the Cedar Valley Golf Club House, golfers participating in the tournament will enjoy a continental breakfast provided by Subway. One lucky golfer this year will win a Garmin S3 GPS Golf Watch courtesy of the IWC, and lunch will be followed by the prize giving, Live and Silent Auctions.
“We are thrilled with the sponsorship opportunities and the donations that have been coming in over the past weeks,” says Avonelle H. Pole, one of the event organizers. Our auction will feature the highest quality electronic products -- an iPad Air from LIME, a Samsung Galaxy S5 mobile phone from Digicel, a Polaroid 32-inch flat panel television from Epicurean and much, much more! Currently, there are only 5 holes left, and we expect that by registration day, November 13 and 14, we will achieve our goal for the largest number of golfers ever to play in the Tournament.”
“There will be lots of drinks and prizes,” according to Cath White, who is hard at work organizing the Tournament. “We have been busy allocating the holes and co-ordinating the banners and signs for each one. Registration Fees are EC$250 per person or EC$1,000 for a team of 4 golfers. Lunch under the tents, includes two complimentary drinks, Cart Fees, Blue Waters courtesy of A.S. Bryden, and a goody bag with exciting vouchers and products from participating sponsors. A team briefing will follow the Subway breakfast in the Clubhouse, and 8:45am is tee-off time.” White, who is also a terrific golfer and will play in the tournament, says Caribbean Helicopters is providing a Hole-in-One prize, and Virgin Atlantic has offered 2 complimentary tickets for one lucky golfer and 2 more that will headline the live auction.
The format of the Tournament follows the guidelines of a “Scramble”, each team comprising four players playing 18 holes. Each player on the team tees off on every hole and they choose the best drive. From that spot, each person hits a second shot. The team then decides on the best position from which to play their third shots and so on, until one player holes out. Each member of the Team 1st Gross and Team 1st Net will receive a Trophy, crafted by Sign Pro, the winners of the Nearest the Pin Ladies and Gents and all 5 categories in the Longest Drive will receive medals by Sign Pro.
The International Women’s Club through its Golf For Education Programme, also supports a stipend each school year for an adult remedial education teacher through Project Hope, provides a major prize for the Wadadli Pen Writing Competition, and funds materials for the Back-to-School Project, assisting up to 15 youngsters in need.
