GOLF FOR EDUCATION TOURNAMENT BEING HELD BY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S CLUB IN OCTOBER Wednesday 22nd September 2010
The International Women’s Club Scholarship Fund will be the focus of a golf tournament to be held at the Cedar Valley Golf Course on 9th October, 2010 beginning at 9 a.m. Caribbean Union Bank has joined the effort as the Headline Sponsor, and a number of other companies are sponsoring particular holes to contribute to the effort.
This annual tournament is one of the major fundraisers for the IWC Scholarship Program which each year awards approximately $40,000 in grants to women of Antiguan nationality who are pursuing tertiary educational goals in the fields of nursing, pharmacy, x-ray technician, education, and economic development. Since 1998 the club has awarded 120 scholarships, totaling $372,300 EC.
The format for the tournament is a Scramble off 18 holes with four-person teams. The entry fees are $200 EC per golfer if purchased before 9 October and $225 if purchased on the date of the tournament, and include cart fees, lunch, drinks, snacks and a gift bag. Prizes will be given for Team First Gross, Team First Net, Nearest Pins, and Longest Drives in several categories.
In addition, the IWC will hold an auction with prizes donated by sponsors including a weekend package of golf at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Course, a weekend at Curtain Bluff, tickets for a Wadadli Cats Tour, an Equilibrium Spa voucher, and a prize from Quin Farara as well as dinners for two at various restaurants including Sheer, Treetops, Café Bambula, and Mr. Chippy’s.
IWC non-golfing members as well as the general public can attend the lunch and auction for a fee of $45. The club is also conducting a 50/50 Cash Raffle, where half the total collected will be won by a ticket purchaser.
Among the hole sponsors are ABI Realty, Agile Courts, Anjo Insurance, Annette’s Orchids, Bingo Mania, Connie Rabinowitz, Island Provisions, Pet Suites, Pitch Restaurant, Quin Farara, Sign Pro, and Waterscaping.
