HELP THE MUSEUM OF ANTIGUA & BARBUDA
Monday 18th June 2012
Concerned citizens are lending a helping hand towards ceilings repairs for the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda. Curator for the Museum Michele Henry said that donations towards ceiling repairs have already amounted to $4,000. The funds came as a response to a public fund-raiser that was launched by the museum to repair its ceilings that have been damaged by termites.

“We are presently on a fund-raiser to see if we can replace every board in the ceiling to make the place a safer environment for our cultural patrimony … it’s the wood that we’re replacing in three of the galleries in the museum, two upstairs and one downstairs. They are termite-ridden and we can’t afford for the termite dust to affect our cultural patrimony in the form of our books and other hard objects,” said Henry.

The funds gained thus far were enough to begin work at the site, which is being done by the Public Works Division. Henry said their goal however, is to receive $15,000 so that the ceilings would be completed by August 30.

“We are targeting August 30 because we don’t want to go too far into the hurricane season,” Henry said. Henry is encouraging the public to continue their support and wishes to remind the public that whatever one can afford would be accepted.

“If you come up with $10 we are going to take it because it’s not only boards, but we also need nails and other materials. We will accept anything at this stage,” said Henry.
