WINGS DOWN BUT NOT OUT Monday 27th May 2013
Despite a gallant effort from the Wings U-17 Females, the team suffered a heavy 7—1 defeated from the Clarehallites, in the ABFA Youth League, on Thursday, May 23, at the ARG.
Wings were without a full complement of players due to the absence of some players who are preparing for CXC exams. However, Wings certainly put up a great fight with a few good girls turning out to play the game. The lone goal, an equaliser, came from Chadae Brann in the first half.
Custodian, Kayana Alexander did her best at goal, but the Clarehall girls capitalized on the shortage of the Wings team to create opportunities in the defence. Wings will seek to regroup and come back even stronger and more committed for their showdown against Young warriors on Saturday, June 1st.
In the Boys U-20 ABFA League, Wings came up against Bassa of All Saints, also on Thursday, May 23, at the ARG. However, although Wings drew first blood in the first 15 minutes, with a break-away by defender Greg Coates, Bassa equalized soon after. Wings continued the first half in fine form and following instructions from Coach Thaddeaus Price, neared their top game to end the half 3—1.
As not to be humiliated, the guys from All Saints came back out to do battle as the second half saw a very physical game, with some bloody injuries.
Jerome Gilliard received an elbow in the face that resulted in a dirty nose bleed and Somory Farrell went off with an injured ankle. With the defence down, Bassa saw the advantage and stuck 5 unanswered goals.
Wings U-20 Boys, too, will return, and as coach Price promised, the next team, Empire, will pay for this defeat on Saturday, May 1st... Click here for all News and Specials for CPTSA Wings Sports Club
