GREENE MEDALS AT XIX CAC JUNIOR GAMES Tuesday 3rd July 2012
At least one of the four athletes rep-resenting Antigua/Barbuda at the 19th Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Juniors Track & Field, June 29—July 1, in El Salvador will return home with medals.
The 17 year old Antiguan, Cejhae Greene of the Princess Margaret School and PSE Track & Field Club, took charge in his 100M heat to clock 10.46 on Friday, June 29, to qualify for the Finals of the Boys B Class. How-ever, Greene ran a slower time of 10.58 sec. to finish third, behind Jevaughn Minzie (Jam) and Zharnel Hughes (Anguilla) who both ran a photo 10.46sec. finish.
On Saturday, June 30, Greene, again, secured another Bronze with a 21.14sec. finish in the 200M Boys B Class, behind Zarnel Hughes who ran 20.98 and Jervaughn Minzie 21.02 sec.
Earlier, in the Semi-finals, Greene had posted a first place 20.90 in his heat. Meanwhile, sprinters Tahir Walsh and Jared Jarvis, although qualifying for the Finals in the Boys A Class 100M and 200M, slipped behind their Semi-Finals times of 10.57sec. and 10.59sec., respectively to finish 6th and 7th Place, respectively in the Fi-nals. It was a 10.79sec. photo finish of the two young athletes.
In the 200M Boys A Class, Jared Jar-vis had a 3rd place Semi-finals heat time of 21.46sec. and Tahir Walsh trailing with a 4th place 21.49 in his heat. However, once again, both men fell behind in the Finals on Saturday night. Walsh clocked 21.68sec. for 4th Place and Jarvis 21.88 to take 5th.
The 200M Boys A Class was won by Yoandys Prado of Cuba in 20.89; Sec-ond, Jareem Richards of T&T; Third, Blake Richards of the Bahamas.
The other athlete representing Anti-gua/Barbuda was Kenneth Benjamin, who finished 9th in the 1500M Boys B Class clocking 4:19.24.
In a press release, President of the A&BAAA, Dr. Rodney Williams, ex-pressed his congratulations to Cejhae Greene and all the other athletes and coaches. Dr. Williams said that Greene has now qualified for the World Junior Championships which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, July 10—15, 2012.
