SPORTS MINISTRY GIVE SUPPORT TO CPTSA PROGRAMS Tuesday 17th May 2011
On Friday morning, May 13, Director of Sports, Mr. Mervyn Richards, handed over a cheque of over $7,500.00 to the Concerned Parents/Teachers Sports Association, at a Presentation Ceremony held at the Ministry of Sports Headquarters at Cassada Gardens.

The funds were approved as part of the Ministry of Sports support for the CPTSA Wings Sports Club hosting of the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic, May 7 & 8, 2011.
Besides Mr. Richards, present at the Presentation Ceremony were the Minister of Sports, Sen. Winston Williams, Planning Officer in the Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Anne Jonas, Sir Reginald Samuel, representatives of the sponsors of the Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Athletic Association, Dr. Rodney Williams, Members of the Wings Youth Track & Field Committee and signatories of MOU’s.

In accepting the cheque, President of the CPTSA Wings Sports Club, Mr. Lucaso Brumant expressed his organization’s sincere thanks for the support given by the Ministry of Sports. According to Mr. Brumant, the support given to the CPTSA by the Ministry of Sports has been unprecedented in the Club’s twenty-two (22) years existence.
Head Coach & Meet Director of the Wings Youth Track & Field presents the Minister of Sports, Hon. Sen. Winston Williams an Appreciation Certificate.
Last summer, the Ministry of Sports also supported the Wings Youth Basketballers travelling to Orlando for the Youth Basketball Of America International Basketball Camp.
Meanwhile, the CPTSA Wings Sports Club used the occasion on Friday to present Certificates of Appreciation to a number of sponsors of the Sir Reginald Samuel Classic.
Ms. Jennifer Stevens of First Caribbean Int’l Bank receives Certificate of Appreciation from Mr. Everton Cornelius.
Certificates were presented to the Ministry of Sports, the First Caribbean International Bank, Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank, Subway, and the Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Athletic Association. Absent were representatives of Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd., and State Insurance Corporation.
An Appreciation Plaque was also presented to Sir Reginald Samuel.
A number of other Governmental agencies and private companies gave support and will be receiving Certificates of Appreciation, Shortly.
Two more sign facility MOU
On Friday morning, May 13, at the Ministry of Sports, two more groups were awarded caretaker status for sporting facilities/grounds in Antigua/Barbuda.
Mr. Henderson Bass and Kathy Payne signed the MOU on behalf of the Antigua & Barbuda Softball Association for the management of the Community grounds at the Princess Margaret School. The ABSA is expected to work closely with the school in respect of management of the grounds.
The other MOU was signed by Mr. John Weston, on behalf of the Jennings Sports Club, for the management of the Jennings Playing Field.
The initiative to give management status and Community Based Ownership to sporting associations and bonafide Community organizations started earlier this year.
According to Planning Officer in the Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Anne Jonas, “the aim is to encourage Community based ownership of public sports and recreational venues with a view to building capacity within the organizations and increasing the level of participation and performance in sports and recreation in well managed venues.”
Mrs. Jonas explained that the MOU will be for one year, in the first instance, with the option to renew for two (2) year periods thereafter.
