CITIZENSHIP BY INVESTMENT UNIT SPONSORS COMMEMORATIVE ASW BOOK
Monday 20th March 2017

Antigua Sailing Week is pleased to announce a new sponsor, the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).

The CIU has come on board to sponsor the commemorative book created by Antigua Sailing Week organisers to memorialize Antigua and Barbuda’s top-class sailing event.  Antigua Sailing Week: The First 50 Years, as the book title suggests, reflects on the evolution of the event from its formation to present-day.

The CIU sponsored the creation of the coffee-table book in celebration of Antigua Sailing Week’s 50th edition -- a milestone achievement for the country’s longest-running sailing event. The book will be released at a launch slated for mid-April.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the CIU, Thomas Anthony said: “The Citizenship by Investment Unit is proud to be the official sponsor of this beautiful compilation of memories, in commemoration of such a significant event that has become an indelible part of our culture.”

The CIU administers Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP). Henley & Partners and Arton Capital, which are consulting firms that both specialize in residence and citizenship investor programmes, rank the CIP as the first in the region and third in the world behind Malta and Cyprus.

With tourism being the main driver of the economy, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda utilizes the CIP to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), renew interest in the real estate market and spur investment in the general economy. Through the program, foreign investors are granted citizenship in exchange for investing in the country.

Chairman of Antigua Sailing Week’s Regatta Organising Committee, Kathy Lammers said that the Antigua Sailing Week book gives the CIU an additional tool for marketing the destination to foreign investors.

“Antigua Sailing Week is one of the greatest international marketing tools the island has,” Lammers said. “The book will be a great tool for CIU to give to potential investors to showcase not only Antigua Sailing Week, but Antigua as a destination.”

Antigua Sailing Week: The First 50 Years delves into memories over the years and showcases sailing photographs, scenic images and popular locations such as Nelson’s Dockyard.

It features a lot of the key players, who created and played a significant part in organising Antigua Sailing Week.  It highlights stories of sailors who triumphed over challenges at sea to win the Lord Nelson Trophy, and who have demonstrated their commitment to the sport and the event by racing year-after-year, even if they have never won.  It brings back to life some of the party traditions from over the years.

Lammers, who participated in Antigua Sailing Week for the first time in 1982 and raced regularly from 1997 until 2011 when she got involved in the regatta organisation, hopes that going through the book will bring back a lot of memories that may have been forgotten for people, who have been involved in the event in one way or another over the years.
