ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK SPECTATOR SPOTS
Monday 15th April 2013

If you want to be part of the action but you’re not racing, there are some excellent options throughout the race week.

SHIRLEY HEIGHTS LOOKOUT

On Sunday 28th April, Shirley Heights Lookout will host its famous Antigua Sailing Week breakfast. An excellent local breakfast along with bush tea is available from 8 am until 11 am, and once the races begin you will be in one of the best locations on the south coast from which to view the excitement at the start lines.

WADADLI CATS

If you’d like to get close to the boats, then Wadadli Cats will be out chasing the races. Leaving from and returning to Falmouth Harbour Marina, you will get to be part of the excitement on the water. You will witness boats rounding marks, hoisting spinnakers and changing tactics all in an effort to win the races. Call Thalia on 462-0374 or email ahta@candw.ag to make a booking. Tickets are EC$165 and include lunch and drinks.

MIRAMAR SPECTATOR VESSELS

Miramar Sailing chartered vessels – Hwanalea & Miramar will be granted access to the exclusion zone close to all the on-water action. Spend the day or an entire week enjoying closer views of the two races’ non-stop racing action aboard one of two Antigua Sailing Week official event spectator boats. Tickets aboard these vessels are $125 per person and guests have the option to tailor the trip to include the races, some snorkeling or a bay anchor, and each day out includes a light lunch, water and soft drinks.

HIKE TO A VIEW

With all races taking place off English and Falmouth Harbours, a great spectator’s option is to take a hiking trail and head out to one of the forts or headlands to watch. Some of the best views are from Carpenters Rock which is about 15 minutes along the headland from Galleon Beach, Fort Charlotte (along the same hike) and Fort Berkley and the Middle Ground Trail. The Middle Ground Trail leads out from Nelson’s Dockyard along to Fort Berkley and then up over the old forts and back down to Pigeon Point. Both hiking routes also offer excellent cooling off stops, one at Galleon Beach and the other at Pigeon Point.
