ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK CALLING ALL YOUNG ARTISTS
Wednesday 29th February 2012

Budding artists throughout Antigua & Barbuda are getting a chance to try their skills at designing a signboard for the 2012 LIAT sponsored Antigua Sailing Week Schools’ Art Competition. Submissions are invited from young artists aged 4 to 18 years old to capture on paper just what Antigua Sailing Week means to them.

In keeping with the theme the words ‘LIAT’ and ‘Antigua Sailing Week’ must be included in the artwork.  Keep in mind when designing that the overall winning entry will be used as a welcome signboard at the entrance to English Harbour.  Flyers outlining the complete rules of the competition will be sent to schools throughout the island and can be downloaded from the Antigua Sailing Week website.  It is our hope that as many young artists as possible will enter.

Prizes this year include airline tickets to any destination LIAT flies and other fabulous prizes including iPods, cameras and art supplies.  We are also introducing the ASW Schools’ Art Competition People’s Choice Awards on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ASWSchoolsArt) so be sure to Like Us!!  The entry that receives the most Likes will win an additional prize. To enter the People’s Choice Awards, take a picture of your entry and send to thalia@sailingweek.com.  The deadline for submission of all entries is 5:00 pm on Thursday 5th April 2012.

There are so many attractive scenes in and around Antigua Sailing Week that they are often taken for granted, but the young artists who choose to enter the competition always succeed in capturing what makes Antigua Sailing Week the premiere sailing regatta in the world. The Antigua Sailing Week Planning Committee is pleased to have the opportunity to get young people involved and is looking forward to seeing this year’s entries.  Head of Shoreside Planning for 2012 Alison Sly-Adams said:  “It is critical that we create opportunities for Antiguan children to get involved in Antigua Sailing Week. Along with adopting the National Sailing Academy as our official charity, the signboard competition is a great way for children to get involved and begin to see the opportunities that await them in the yachting industry in Antigua’.
