THE STORY OF LUTHER GEORGE IS NOW AVAILABLE
Friday 30th April 2010

The latest addition by a local author to be placed on our shelves is a biography about a brave and determined Antiguan politician, entrepreneur, family man and newspaper columnist, born in All Saints Village in 1903.

LUTHER GEORGE: The Barack Obama of Antigua and Barbuda is the story of a poor boy whose parents provided superb guidance, employing child-rearing techniques that were borrowed and improved-upon by the young boy’s parents. He grew with a strong sense of his own worth and learned to maximize his strengths. Not only was he a successful politician, but he was an outstanding entrepreneur.

Luther George was the first Antiguan of African descent to win a seat in the parliament when the society was sharply divided by race. He was on his way to becoming the undisputed leader when someone coughed in his presence, caused him to contract tuberculosis, and sickened him until he died in 1961.

The 300-page tale became available on Friday afternoon, April 30 2010. It is published by Publisher Services and printed in the CARICOM State of Trinidad and Tobago . It was written by former Ambassador Lionel Hurst. The Best of Books will host a book launch and book signing on Thursday evening, May 6, 2010, at its Friars Hill Road outlet, beginning at 7:00 pm. All are invited to hear sections of the book read, and to meet and greet the author.
