KITE SURFING ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA
Wednesday 2nd March 2016

Read the raving destination reviews of all you need to know for your kite boarding holidays; Spots, accommodation, car rental and much more by We Love To Kite.

Dutchman's Bay Cottages
This place I found by coincidence and I am really happy I did. Dutchmans Bay Cottages are 7 cottages located directly at the north of Dutchmans Bay. They are simple & modern and have everything I want as a kiter. A terrace with hammock and sea-view. A big fridge, kitchen, nice bed, and a bathroom with a shower with warm water and good water pressure.  If you like 5* luxury hotels, this is not your place. If you are happy with a nice “down to earth” accomodation and family atmosphere around – this is your place!

I almost fell in love with this place. The cottages and the view from the terrace where I stayed. Perfect sea-view although it’s in the second row. The kites pumped up just 20 steps ahead from my house. For my 2 weeks kite-holiday this was just so perfect it couldn’t be better.

They are self-catering appartements of course. Bathroom towels are provided and a Maid comes in 3 times a week. The owner, David is also a nice guy and is welcoming kitesurfers. I spoke to him and he said I can offer a 3% discount for his place when you tell him at your booking that you found his place over welovetokite.com.

Yes and directly next to the cottages there is a great Restaurant / Bar called „Garden Grill“. The food is delicious and they also have a pool that is free to use for cottage guests and there is also an Italian Restaurant there.

Lowest price car rental at St John's Airport
We've searched Leading rental brands and found this great deal for your trip: Budget

Green Island – Starting with boat trip from Nonsuch Bay
Green Island is a small island on the east-side of Antigua. You need a boat getting to the spot. If you don’t have one, then the Kite-school situated at Nonsuch Bay Resort offers you a lift to the island for 40 USD per person. If you want to go, call 40knots Kite-school and reserve a place. The beach is a 5-minute boat ride from the school.

Kite-boarding in Barbuda
I went to Barbuda for one day with the ferry (www.barbudaexpress.com). I also recommend doing this at least one day – better two.

Kite-Shops
There is no extra kite-shop on the Island but the schools sell gear. I bought a board at 40Knots kite-school. Which means if something breaks, you need a pump, screw, etc. There are people on the island who can help you.

Normal Surf-Shop: If you want to buy some surf-clothes: I found a normal Surf-Shop in the Marina of Falmouth Harbour. They also rent SUP Boards and have Boardshorts, Flip-Flops etc.

Price-level
If you want to live on a low budget, then self-catering places are the ones you have to go. You can also buy cooked-food at stalls on the street or in one of the two big supermarkets on the island, Epicurean or FirstChoice. There you can get a meal for about EC$15 which is around US$5,5. Hotel and Resorts I find super expensive, mostly priced around US$500 - US$1,500 per night a room. That’s why I would recommend a place like Dutchman's Bay Cottages.

Nightlife, Bars, Restaurants
Most parties as far as I know of are in English Harbour. But ask the locals if you are there, I didn’t party so much but kite. Restaurants that I know is Cecilia’s, and is very nice – on the Southest point of Dutchmans Bay. Delicious food, but very expensive.

Shirley Heights
This I consider a must visit while you stay. From here you have the most beautiful view over the island. Mainly English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour.

Breathtakingly beautiful. You will have to go there by car – around  US$8 entry per person. This also includes the entry to Nelson's Dockyard.

English Harbour & Nelson‘s Dockyards / Falmouth Harbour
Falmouth Harbour is the big marina where all the super-yachts and normal yachts are.

In English Harbour is the historic Nelson's Dockyard which you can also visit (Included with the Shirley Heights entry ticket). Nice visiting this.

St. John's, Heritage Quay
St. John's is the capital of Antigua. I recommend visiting Heritage Quay and checking out the huge cruise ships and if you are interested the tourist shopping around. If you want a good coffee I recommend Java2Go.
