WOMEN TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT AT CASSADA GARDENS Monday 9th February 2015
Women will take centre stage during the February 15 Valentine’s Day race meet at Cassada Gardens. The Norma A. Prudhon Filly Classic will honor the memory of the late stalwart of the horseracing fraternity, while six community builders will highlight a special cause.
Austina’s Pride, Benna Gyal, Chosen Well, Countess Liamsborg, Halo’s Pleasure and Lady Anne will race over 8 Furlongs.
The spotlight on women continues with six women of substance from the community, dubbed Charity Ambassadors, who will be paired with the horses. Each woman will receive a donation for her charity, and the one paired with the winning filly will receive double the amount.
The women and their charities are Dr. Fiona Francis (Austina’s Pride); Bliss Solyne (Benna Gyal) Amazing Grace Foundation; Kevinia Francis (Chosen Well) Sunshine Home for Girls; Alison Sly-Adams (Countess Liamsborg) Sail Ability; Senator Shenella Govia (Halo’s Pleasure) JCI Antigua; and Lucinda Lake-Michael (Lady Anne) The Care Project.
“We are constantly finding ways to link our fraternity to the community, in the spirit of lifting as we climb. This focus on the women honours Norma, who was a pillar in horseracing, and it also focuses on a handful of women who are making a difference in their respective spheres and provides a small boost for the charities of their choice,” Antigua Turf Club President Neil Cochrane said.
The day will also feature the highly anticipated grudge match with Nothing Personal, Movado, Demolition Man and Additional Asset.
The gates open at noon, with the first race at 2:15 pm.
