RECYCLING IN ANTIGUA

Keep Antigua Clean and Green! On the heels of International Coastal Cleanup Day, where we saw groups coming out to clean beaches, we've put together a post on what we can do to reduce and recycle our waste here in Antigua. There are recycling stations around the island that take a variety of materials for recycling, from plastics and metals to computers and electric motors. See the options for recycling and how you can do your part below.

Will’s Recycling
Will’s Recycling is located in Hatton in the Cooks Dump area and recycles mostly metals, including aluminum drink cans ($0.50/lb), electric motors, batteries, circuit boards and more. They also provide free pick-up!

Antigua Barbuda Waste Recycling Corporation (ABWREC)
The Antigua & Barbuda Waste Recycling Corporation is a non-profit business and a project of the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown in partnership with the government through the National Solid Waste Management Authority, the Environment Division and Central Board of Health. ABWREC's mission is to assist, in Bulk Waste Reduction and the removal of non-Biodegradable materials from Antigua & Barbuda through Recycling.

ABWREC accepts and recycles plastics (PET1 & HDPE2), aluminum, steel tins, cardboard, vehicular batteries, UPS batteries, PVC cuttings, galvanize cuttings, toner cartridges and scrap metal.

Collection Points
ABWREC collects from Woodstock Boatbuilders and Shirley Heights each Wednesday to accommodate residents as well as bars and restaurants in the area. Be sure to gather your recyclables and drop them off for collection!

Antigua & Barbuda E-Waste Centre

Antigua & Barbuda E-waste Management Center is a non-profit organization that is funded through The GEF Small Grants Program (GEF SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, and is a collaboration of the Gray's Farm Fundamental Baptist Church, the Boys Training School and Computer Reset.

The Center is involved in numerous community efforts, and collects and recycles your electronic waste (e-waste) which is toxic to the environment if not disposed of properly.

Your e-waste can be collected or you can drop off at their facility on Whenner Road, West of Gloria's Supermarket. Drop off time is from 8am- 5pm and Collection time is from 12pm- 5pm.
 
They collect ITC equipment, UPS batteries, cell phones, computers, transformers, computer cables, photocopiers, re-chargeable batteries, ink jet cartridges and small household electrical appliances like microwave ovens, etc.

Antigua Distillery Ltd

Return your Oasis and Beach Island Purified Water Bottles for recycling and receive 5 cents for each bottle. Bottles can be dropped off at the Antigua Distillery Beverage Bottling Facility, formerly Food City Supermarket.

Do Your Part

You can do your part for the environment in so many little ways. Apart from recycling, join with Epicurean Fine Foods in their efforts and pick up a recyclable shopping bag for EC$4.99 at their store and reduce the use of plastic bags! Spread the word and encourage others not to litter, and to recycle as much waste as they can.
