AUA THIRD ANNUAL MENS HEALTH DAY Tuesday 13th May 2014
American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine will host its third annual Men’s Health Day on Saturday, May 24, 2014. It will take place on AUA’s main campus from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The event, which has grown increasingly popular, is expected to draw more than 300 male attendees.
According to Vernon Solomon, Director, Emergency Medicine Training Centre (EMTC), AUA Men's Health Day aims to promote awareness of preventable health issues and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. He further explained that in addition to the general distribution of health information, participants will have the opportunity to provide their medical history and have their cholesterol, glucose, vision, prostate and body mass index (BMI) screen tested. AUA medical students will interact directly with patients, answer questions, and provide individualized recommendations based on each person’s health profile.
Additional AUA student health groups, such as the Asthma League and Sickle Cell Awareness Group, and key health partners supporting AUA Men’s Health Day, including Mount St. John’s Medical Centre, Antigua and Barbuda Glaucoma Support Group, Antigua and Barbuda Renal Society, and Antigua and Barbuda HIV and Aids Network (ABHAN), will be on site to provide health information on their specific area of focus.
Those interested in receiving medical attention during the event are required to pre-register by Friday, May 16, 2014. Registration forms can be completed at Mount St. John’s Medical Centre Woods Pharmacy, Pipers Pharmacy, and public health clinics in All Saints, Clare Hall, and Johnston’s Point. Each applicant will receive advance notification of his scheduled appointment. The local Spanish-speaking community will also be served by medical students who speak the language.
