SWEET MISBEHAVING - CARNIVAL 2013 BEGINS Wednesday 24th July 2013
Our countdown has dwindled down to just a matter of days to go before the Sweet Misbehaving starts for Carnival 2013! Carnival enthusiasts and ‘Socaholics’ have been waiting all year for this weekend, with the action starting on Saturday with the ScotiaBank Opening Parade and Ceremony which features T-Shirt Mas, where all troupes prep for Carnival Monday and Tuesday with a day of jamming through St John’s. You can join in T-Shirt Mas as well with Myst Carnival, who offer their T-Shirt Mas package for EC$150 for Mystics and EC$175 for non-mystics from the Myst Capitol.
Each day of jamming takes a unique route through the streets of St John’s, so whether you are taking part in the parades or just spectating, check out the full route list here.
The kids come out to fill the streets with their colorful and creative costumes on Sunday for LIME Children’s Carnival, where their troupes will be judged, followed in the evening by the State Insurance Junior Calypso Competition at Carnival City, which is the Antigua Recreation Grounds. Moving into the week of Carnival, Monday evening sees the long awaited Queen of Carnival competition, where six stunning delegates will compete for the illustrious crown and title of Queen of Carnival 2013. Meet the contestants here and come out to Carnival City at 8:00 pm to root for your favourite.
On Tuesday, The Source Teen Splash is taking place in Carnival City, where 10 contestants from various high schools around the island will compete for the top spot to take the Teen Splash title. See who is competing and come out to support the young local talent.
The excitement builds midweek with the LIAT Melting Pot on Wednesday, featuring live performances by regional legends like Beenie Man, Asa Bantan, Triple Kay and more, alongside local crowd rockers Red Hot Flames, Claudette Peters, Tian Winter and others. Carnival City is the venue for the melting pot, and you can pick up tickets for the event at The Source, LIME and the National Festivals Office for EC$40.
The Antigua Commercial Bank Panorama is set for Thursday August 1st, where Steel Bands and Orchestras come together to compete and fill the grounds with beautiful sounds of perfected pan pieces.
The following weekend kicks off with the Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show on Friday August 2nd, the big LIME Party Monarch Competition on Saturday 3rd and the Wadadli Beer Calypso Monarch Competition on Sunday 4th. After that, Carnival Monday and Tuesday are here and the streets of St John’s will be filled with feters in fabulous costumes, jam bands and colorful Carnival troupes.
