GLOBAL COCKTAIL CHALLENGE, A DREAM FOR MARQUIS, STREET ART EVENT AND MORE

2013 Qualifier from Antigua, Daniel ‘Timmy’ Thomas  at the 2013 Caribbean Regional Finals

The Antigua & Barbuda Qualifier competition for the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2014 with Quin Farara & Company Ltd. takes place this Friday, where local bartenders and mixologists will be putting their mixing talent to the test from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the ABHTI. Winning prize is US$1,000 with a chance to represent Antigua at the Angostura Caribbean Regional Finals.

It’s Date Night Fridays at The Blu Pineapple Restaurant! Enjoy a FREE appetizer or dessert with the purchase of any 2 entrées this weekend.
 
For the musically inclined:
 
Fantastic local songbird-songwriter, Arianne Whyte Is Back and will be entertaining you live at Al Porto this Saturday from 7:00 pm. The night features a delicious menu and if you fancy a tasty cocktail on this fine evening, you can try one out at the bar.

Mixing soca music and dance:

The Crow’s Nest
is kicking off the weekend this Friday, July 12th with SocaRobix dance lessons followed by practice. Polish up your dance moves, and maybe learn a few news ones, with Tony 'The Tiger' Jacobs just in time for Carnival from 8 pm and afterwards take a chance to show off from 9 pm. Free shots and cocktails all night.

Hamilton’s Wine Bar & Bistro is having a Sunday lunch on July 14th; the restaurant is opening specially for you, offering delicious and exquisite selections of starters, mains with well-prepared sides, and tasty desserts. It'll be an afternoon of great food, great atmosphere and lovely service.

Get Fit for a Cause:

Walk, run, donate & support the “A Dream for Marquis” 10k Run/Walk in honour of little Marquis George-Beazer, diagnosed with Wilm's Tumour,  this Saturday, July 13th. The walk starts and ends at the Lion’s Den and the minimum donation of EC$20 covers breakfast and a T-Shirt, and there will be lots of prizes and giveaways.
 
ALL proceeds will go towards medical assistance for 4 year old Marquis George-Beazer.
 
Another sporting event:
 
Team Terminix Folly Hill road race is set for this Sunday from 9:00 am and is sure to see a lot of exciting racing to the very end with cyclists racing from the Police Recreation Grounds to Swetes and back.

COMMUNITY

The turtles are back! 
 

The hawksbill turtle nesting/hatching season starts this Friday, July 12th and runs through October 4th. Nature enthusiasts can take an offshore trip each Friday from 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm with the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) to witness the magical and intimate experience of turtle-watching. Watch sea turtles emerge from the surge and make their way to our shores to lay their eggs in the sand and months later see the brave hatchlings make the long nighttime journey from their nest to the safety of the sea. Spaces are limited and all reservations must be made in advance, so sign up early by contacting the EAG Group.
 
On the art scene:
 
Get ready to paint or for a chance to tag along with Hilesha Humphreys and creative youths at the Free Street Art Event 2 on Sunday July 14, 2013 at Dredgebay Playing Field as local artists pictorially display their “Happy Days” while beautifying the community of Point and Villa. Bring your inner artist with you!
 
Final week of the Antigua Girls High School Musical Theater Camp is next week. The week-long activities enriches youths between the ages of 10-25 abilities and talents. Treat your kids to a week of theatrical fun. Spots are available, click here for more info.

Art lovers are in for a treat on Saturday, July 20th at the Art At The Ridge Christmas in July fair as the event promises the best in beautiful art and fine craft, gifts, with a chance to meet the many talented makers and participate in a free raffle.

The Waitt Foundation’s Barbuda Ocean Initiative focuses on preserving livelihoods and culture by sustainably managing ocean resources.

And, lest we forget, it's time to name the top student-athletes in their respective sports:

Ministry Of Sports is seeking nominations for the National Students-Athletes Awards 2013. The awards are designed to honour the hard work and dedication of high school and college student-athletes island-wide who have excelled in the classroom and on the playing field, while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities.
 
Nominations can be completed via emailing by submitting the form to oms.abgov@gmail.com
and are due by July 31st. The winners will be awarded on Saturday, September 21, 2013.
