YOUTH SAILORS EXCEL IN SCHOELCHER REGATTA Friday 3rd March 2017
Antiguan Youth sailors competed and excelled against high qualified sailors from St. Barths, Guadeloupe, Martinique, France, Sweden, Norway, Cuba and Córsega in the 27th Annual Schoelcher International Regatta which was held in Martinique.
The weather was very unpredictable with choppy waters and winds of 5 knots to gusts of 27 knots.
In the beginners Optimist fleet, Shanoy Malone placed second and was awarded a trophy, and Maurice Belgrave placed fourth.
Maria Eldridge competed in an advanced fleet against sailors who have been to the world's championships and was placed in the top 10. She placed 17out of 36 overall.
On the Laser Radial, Rhone Kirby placed 4th and Daniel Smith 8th, out of 20 competitors. It was a great event and thanks to the CN Schoelcher for granting the sailors their airfares and warm welcome. Also a big thank you to coach Karl James for his support, guide and patience throughout the event.
