SELWYN JAMES RECEIVES THE ORDER OF MERIT Friday 25th November 2016
On November 1st, 2016: Selwyn James (photo), a chef, originally from Grenada, formally joined the highly prestigious Order of Merit. He received the honour at this year's Independence Celebration for service in Yachting & Marine, Tourism, Culture, Environment and Community Service. His contribution and assistance in activities includes a two-year Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Institute Scholarship, National Cultural Arts Festival, Culinary Exposition, Carnival and the Dow’s Hill Interpretation Centre following in the footsteps of some unique personal accomplishments in the yachting industry.
His personal achievements include:
- Received a Culinary Scholarship Award in October 2015
- Inducted into the CYBA International Charter Hall of Fame in 2013
- First Chef on the Charter Yacht Fandango to make and design a Brochure showcasing the yacht’s food, which led to his nickname “Flying Chef”
- Studied French Culinary Art in Dallas, Texas in 1972 where he learned to make soufflés, crepes and other gourmet dishes which prepared him for the Charter Industry.
