ANTIGUA OPTIMIST RACE TEAM IN BVI Thursday 29th May 2014
Once again the Antigua Optimist Race Team travelled off island to represent their country in a regional Regatta. This time there were seven sailors.
The British Virgin Islands' Dingy Championships is a lot of fun for the young sailors and the setting at beautiful Nanny Cay Resort couldn't have felt more Caribbean with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Conditions were light for the Regatta again this year. It was wonderful to see Antigua's sailors holding their own in this very competitive fleet.
Rocco Falcone, Louis Bavay, and River Andrews were all in Red Class, with Rocco taking 2nd in class and 3rd overall.
Daniel Smit, Jalese Gordon, and Giles De Jäger were all in Blue Class. This was Giles' first Regatta and he did very well holding his own.
Maria Eldridge sailed in the White Class taking a 3rd.
All sailors competed on the same course along with Lasers, Bytes, 420s, and IC 24s which made the event even more exciting for both, sailors and spectators.
Thank you to Antigua Yacht Club for use of the equipment, Mr. Walcott from Liat for the baggage waiver for the rigs, and to Mr Karl James for taking time out on two of his days off to polish up the team before it left for as they no longer have a full time coach.
Special thanks to Mr Carlo Falcone for getting a dingy and spending two days on the water as the team coach for this regatta.
Congratulations to all!!!
