The Future of Caribbean Sailing – Caribbean Dinghy Championships, Youth Sailors Victorious, New Home for Antigua's National Sailing Academy

Dear Readers:

It's that time of year again when we welcome back to Antigua the many seasonal residents who are so active in the yachting community and the many yachts that will make Antigua their home base for the season following the Antigua Charter Yacht Show which takes place this year from December 6 to 12.

We focus this month on the future of sailing in both Antigua and in the Caribbean as a whole.  Antigua Yacht Club and Antigua's National Sailing Academy will host the CSA-sanctioned Caribbean Dinghy Championships this weekend which will feature teams from five different Caribbean countries.  We're very proud to bring you the story this month of a team of Antigua Yacht Club youth sailors who had great success at the Guadeloupe Festivoiles 2013 in early November.  Congratulations to all the youngsters who worked so hard to achieve their goals.  I'd also like to mention three National Sailing Academy students who have worked hard to achieve their goals and are now seeking funding support to represent Antigua and Barbuda in upcoming International regattas.  All the details are in the story below.

We have many other stories to tell this month but in particular want to mention the new home of the National Sailing Academy at the former Reef Gardens on Dockyard Drive, English Harbour. President of the NSA, Elizabeth Jordan, has worked tirelessly to renovate the property and buildings into a true water sports centre and she's delighted to announced that the renovations are almost finished.  The centre should be open for the season in the very near future - watch this space for updates.  Well done Elizabeth!
