CLARIFICATION OF CUSTOMS POLICY FOR YACHTS VISITING BARBUDA
Thursday 30th May 2013

In response to recent confusion over Customs requirements for yachts visiting Barbuda, a letter of clarification was provided by Raju Boddu, Comptroller of Customs, Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

It was explained that there are not new regulations in place with respect to yachts visiting Barbuda.  The Customs department is only trying to conduct itself in accordance with the existing laws as they are written.

Any information to the effect that pleasure yachts are no longer allowed to visit Barbuda is incorrect. Antigua's Department of Customs is committed to passenger facilitation and pleasant visitor experience for all those visiting its shores. As Barbuda is not an authorized Port of Entry, the only requirement for visiting yachts is that they contact Customs in Antigua to seek prior permission to visit Barbuda direct.

Permission must be granted by the Comptroller that is on duty on that day. If the Comptroller is not in office, the Acting Comptroller will handle all requests.

Requests should be sent via email to customs@ab.gov.ag or queenbee.fdr@gmail.com or by fax to +1-268-462-2767.

Information required by the Comptroller or Acting Comptroller of Customs includes the purpose of visit, the crew list and details of the vessel including size, class, capacity and so on.

The eSeaClear Customs preclearance system does not operate in Barbuda.

Raju Boddu, Comptroller of Customs can be contacted at +1 268 764-4592 for further information.
