ISSUE 4 - ANTIGUA
Monday 22nd November 2010

It’s a very exciting time here in Antigua.  Since the return of Mirabella V a week or so ago, the yachts arriving for the Antigua Charter Yacht Show have started to trickle in and the marinas in English and Falmouth Harbours are slowly filling up.  Plans for the Show are being finalized and with 125 entries to date and charter brokers coming from as far away as New Zealand and the Galapagos Islands, it looks like the 2010 Show will be bigger and better than ever.

Antigua Sailing Week 2011 is shaping with 30 entries to date, about five times the number entered at this time last year!  There will be courses suitable for boats of all sizes - from J24s to 100-footers - and plans are progressing for the Ocean Series which recently received its first official entry – Adrian Lee of Lee Overlay Partners will be returning to Antigua once again!

On the other end of the scale, I was sitting recently on my boat off Pigeon Beach when I heard squeals of laughter coming from a large group of children spreading out across Falmouth Harbour in sailing dinghies, on old surf boards and in fading kayaks.  It was such a pleasure watching those children enjoying themselves in Antigua Yacht Club’s Sunday Fun Day Program and it made me proud to be a member of the Club which is doing a fantastic job teaching children to appreciate the sport that so many of us take for granted!

So it appears that Antigua’s winter yachting season is going to be busier and more exciting than ever!!  Please read on for news about many of the other exciting events on this season’s calendar!
