SUPERYACHT SLIPSTREAM RECOGNIZED FOR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS
Friday 22nd June 2018

On Monday 11 June, the crew of the 60m motor yacht Slipstream will be presented with the Yachts du Coeur trophy in recognition of their role in organizing and transporting aid to the Caribbean after the 2017 hurricanes.

In collaboration with ECO-MER and YachtAid Global, last November Slipstream collected donations including carpentry tools and construction materials to help with the rebuilding of Caribbean islands, before crossing the Atlantic to deliver the aid to those in greatest need.

“Slipstream collected donations from yacht crew in Palma, Mallorca, before adding more goods through Yachts du Coeur events in the South of France and the Italian Riviera,” said ECO-MER President Jean-Luc Annone.

She then crossed the Atlantic and delivered 38 cubic meters of donations to the island of Dominica. “Once in Dominica, YachtAid Global took over to collect and distribute the crew donations to those in need. Slipstream then went on to the island of Sint Maarten, where crew participated in projects to rebuild the island,” said Executive Director of YachtAid Global, Timothy Forderer.

The trophy will be presented to Slipstream's crew onboard in Cannes by Commandant Oliver Troy representing the French Royal Navy. Joining ECO-MER and YachtAid Global to congratulate their achievement will be representatives from MYBA (Worldwide Yachting Association) and the PYA (Professional Yachting Association), veterans of the French Royal Navy, the Association de Marins et Marins Anciens Combattants de Cannes (AMMAC Cannes) and officials from the city of Cannes.

The trophy itself was made by artist Sylvie Wohlgemuth depicting Ceres, goddess of nature and abundance, putting the spotlight on mother nature and the environment.

ECO-MER and YachtAid Global warmly thanks the crew of Slipstream for their tireless and inspiring dedication to helping these coastal communities in their time of need.

Founded in 2006, YachtAid Global (YAG) organizes the delivery of disaster relief, development and conservation aid to coastal communities worldwide. The nonprofit organization depends on a network of volunteers to coordinate logistics, enlisting the help of yacht owners and crew to collect donations and deliver disaster relief quickly and efficiently.

Organized by ECO-MER, the inspiration behind Yachts du Coeur events originates in the text of the Seafarers' Chaplain of the Basque Country - Solidarity at Sea Against Winds and Tides - by Mikel Epalza. This founding text of 'Yachts with Heart' speaks of the natural cohesion of the world of the sea because all sailors know it is only together that one can save oneself.
