TIGER TYSON EXCELS AT EURO CHAMPIONSHIPS Wednesday 19th July 2017
Antigua’s young Tiger Tyson has recently wrapped competition at the TT:R European Continental Championships in Italy over July 11th – 16th. Tiger placed an incredible 8th overall of 68 competitors in twin tip kiteboard racing. Tiger is also ranked 8th in the world under the IKA TT:R Slalom Boys World Ranking 2017!

While 8th is impressive, Tiger is sure he could have secured a higher spot, after losing 27 points in one race after being run into but still penalized. Tiger’s coach, Michael Gebhardt, commented "Tiger had a very bad call against him that probably cost him winning the regatta, as he got knocked out in a 2nd round heat for a collision that was not his fault. IF HE FINISHED 8TH OR BETTER IN THAT ROUND HE WOULD HAVE WON!"
Still, Tiger’s performance put Antigua and Barbuda on the leaderboard, and at the top after winning a race day, and taking 3rd in the final race. Unfortunately low wind prevented racing on the last race day, so Tiger was unable to make up points. With this competition down, Tiger is one step closer to the 2018 Youth Olympics, representing Antigua and Barbuda in twin tip kiteboard racing.

Training continues for upcoming qualifying competitions for the Youth Olympics, and Tiger is currently in Greece with Cameron Maramenides (2nd place winner in the Euro Championships) and Cameron’s father, kite surfing legend Dimitri Maramenides, where he’s looking forward to some high wind sessions. Stay tuned for more updates on Tiger on his road to the Youth Olympics.
