3 WEST INDIES CRICKETERS TO BE KNIGHTED Tuesday 25th February 2014
  
Three of Antigua & Barbuda’s cricketing greats will be accorded the country’s second highest honour during the first One Day International (ODI) between England and the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds on Friday, 28 February.
Former fast bowlers Andy Roberts and Curtly Ambrose, and former Windies captain and current team manager Richie Richardson are the three cricketers who will be knighted.
According to plans, Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack will confer the status of knighthood on the trio during the lunch break at the ODI. The three will also be part of a parade on Friday that will highlight all 17 of Antigua & Barbuda’s former international cricketers.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Leader of the Opposition Gaston Browne will also be in attendance.
Roberts, the first Antiguan to represent the West Indies, made his debut against England in March of 1974. Richardson made his Test debut in November 1983, while Ambrose first donned the maroon of the Windies in a One Day International in March 1988. He played in his first Test a month later.
The trio of Ambrose, Richards and Roberts will join Sir Vivian as knights, although Sir Vivian, who was knighted in 1999, enjoys pride of place as a first among equals with the designation of national hero.
